What It's Like Being An Apprentice with Laser Plumbing East Tamaki
A few team members share their journey working for Laser Plumbing East Tamaki
Bobbie is our Operations Manager. He spends time on site supporting our team and offering his experience and knowledge. He began working for the company as an apprentice 12 years ago and has worked his way up. Bobbie started running small jobs and progressed to managing three work teams at different new housing sites across Auckland prior to moving to the office in East Tamaki 2 years ago.
“Although this is a high pressure role that comes with certain amounts of stress I really enjoy working at Laser. Quoting work, meeting and talking with clients and being able to help them with a solution for whatever plumbing, gas fitting or drainage they require. Working with the guys on site to make sure things are done to our high standards and that they are also enjoying their jobs. Time spent with both Marc and Roger is extremely valuable and gives me a chance to further myself and grow. I have a great working relationship with our other Ops Manager, Brad which makes it easy to bounce ideas off one another. One of the things I take most pride in is looking after some of our larger sites where I can see the great culture we have.”
Jaycob started working with us in 2013 as an apprentice. In 2015 he won the Dux scholarship which paid for the last 3 years of his apprentice fees. He is now a Tradesman Plumber and Journeyman Gasfitter. We support our staff to apply for awards and nominate them when we can. In 2018 Jaycob won a Plumbing World Award for Excellence and also won a prize through Rheem for a trout fishing weekend in Rotorua. Jaycob has worked in the company doing new housing projects, renovations and is currently working in our maintenance division passing his knowledge and skills to our current apprentices.
"I think working for Laser each day is rewarding, the staff are incredibly supportive of one another, to me it's almost like a second family, everyone gets a long and every day is never the same, the variety is really awesome and you always feel like a valued member of the team."
Russell started his Plumbing and Gasfitting Apprenticeship with our Company in 2015. Originally from South Africa Russell had worked for another plumbing company which was an advantage during the early days of his apprenticeship. After graduating this year Russell is now a Tradesman Plumber and Gasfitter. He is also a supervisor for residential new builds at Swanson and some other sites around West Auckland.
"I enjoy working for Laser because of the mates you make at work who enjoy having a laugh and make work enjoyable. I also find Laser very accommodating to any issues or requests that I may have. Fantastic company to work for and enjoy the extra mile they go to keep their employees happy."
